Google will continue to finance Mozilla?

In the first of September, the Mozilla Foundation announced an
extension of its partnership with Google until 2011. Through this
agreement, Mozilla place Google as default search engine in its
Firefox browser, as well as a dedicated home page. In return, Google
pays the Foundation a portion of revenue from search traffic from the
browser.
For Google, the agreement allows to consolidate its market position in
search engines. On Mozilla, the money coming regularly is necessary
for the development of the browser and was not less than 85% of total
income of the Foundation in 2006 (57 million). Mitchell Baker,
president of the foundation, said then: "we have to renew our
partnership with Google for three years (...) we can therefore assure
the stability of our revenues."
Only in the future it may be that this partnership should be
compromise. Indeed, following the announcement, Google unveiled
Chrome, its own browser comes out in the field of Firefox. Questioned
on this subject by the BusinessWeek magazine, Mitchell Baker
explained, "there are other search engines that would be willing to
pay.The president of the foundation noted that "one of the market has
offered to make a big check to replace Google," before indicating that
it was not Microsoft.
Obviously, if Google had put an end to funding of Firefox, some see in
the browser the opportunity to attract more users. If the search
engines divide the market of mobile Internet by signing different
agreements with mobile operators worldwide, the traditional browser
remains a highly coveted. In any case, Firefox will therefore not be
forgotten.
