>> Monday, June 13, 2011

Visible Light Communications Consortium (VLCC) released their first
Specification Standard adopting and expanding the IrDA Physical Layer
to the newly released Visible Light Communication Consortium (VLCC)
Specification Standard. The new specification standard from VLCC is
the fruit of their current agreement through The Memorandum of
Understanding between the two organizations signed on September 3rd,
2008.

The advantage of the VLCC system is an ability to transmit data by
simply adding an optical communications device on the socket of the
existing lighting fixtures, such as spot lights and incandescent
lights, where light connections are already established. This feature
provides digital data delivery system with minimum facility
investment, and can potentially be used for broadcasting purposes at
stations, hotels, public facilities, event halls or inside public
transportation such as trains and buses.
