As Firefox, Safari, the Web browser developed by Apple, has a download manager. To take full advantage, it should first be set.
Pull down the Edit menu and go all the way down to select Preferences.
In the window that appears, click on the "General" tab. In the lower part, are visible different settings for the Download Manager: the choice of backup directory, manual or automatic deletion from the list of downloads and the application or not before the launch of the download. Once the module is configured, close the window.

I think you should have a look at Macheist and the Speed Download application!

Gets Safari Download window and makes it active. Safari 2.0 asks user for download confirmation of all downloaded files. Without this action opened it stalls the download of the files. Use to download files from a URL. A needed addition for Safari workflows.
Features:
Enable the debug menu
Remove the underlines from hyperlinks
Make the status text in the downloads window and bookmarks sidebar more readable
Disables Safari’s cache entirely
Set a minimum font size for webpages
Change colours of hyperlinks
Remove and restore the brushed metal appearance
Wipe the site icon cache
Importing bookmarks from any HTML file, and directly from Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape, Camino, OmniWeb (imperfect), and iCab
Configure history menu and history item limits
Change the search engine used in the Safari toolbar
